Hong Ji-sun, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, stated on October 7 that the government will ensure a sufficient and rapid supply of housing in the capital region.

In her opening remarks at the National Assembly's Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee audit, Minister Hong emphasized, "Above all, we will firmly stabilize the housing market and alleviate the public's housing anxiety. We will establish a model for the quickest possible commencement of public land development and secure new sites to increase the volume of public land projects."

Regarding urban housing supply through redevelopment and reconstruction, she noted, "We will actively resolve factors that hinder project speed and provide incentives for projects that are expedited. We will also more proactively mediate conflicts and disputes on-site."

Minister Hong also discussed strengthening the housing safety net. She stated, "We will diligently implement our housing stability plan, including the supply of public housing and universal public rental housing, while also improving the housing support system, such as expanding the eligibility for housing benefits. We will enhance protections against rental fraud through risk diagnosis services and minimum guarantee systems."

On the reform of the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), she remarked, "We will prepare effective reform measures to ensure that LH can fulfill its fundamental roles in housing supply and housing welfare with the public's trust."

In terms of regional balanced development, she emphasized local-led growth centered on the 'Five Extremes and Three Specials.' Minister Hong stated, "We will create corporate-type advanced cities that connect corporate investment to local growth, making regions attractive to businesses and young people. The second relocation plan for public institutions will be announced this year without delay, incorporating feedback from local communities, institutions, and employees."

Regarding construction site safety, she asserted, "We will not compromise on the safety of the public and construction workers under any circumstances. We will prevent poor construction practices and overhaul the safety management system for all phases of demolition work, shifting from post-accident recovery to a proactive risk prevention system."

In the railway sector, she announced improvements in services following the merger of Korail and SR. Minister Hong stated, "With the Korail-SR merger, we will provide more seats for the public and continuously enhance tangible services such as fare reductions and mileage benefits."

Additionally, she mentioned, "We will continue to expand benefits for all transportation cards to reduce the public's burden of public transport costs. We will also expand autonomous driving demonstrations at the city level and accelerate the initial commercialization of urban air mobility and the advancement of the drone industry."
