LS Marine Solutions is set to begin its undersea cable installation project in Malaysia, following its recent work in Taiwan.
On October 14, LS Marine Solutions announced that it has loaded undersea cables for the Langkawi project onto its cable-laying vessel, GL2030, at Donghae Port in Gangwon Province.
After completing the loading, GL2030 will head to Malaysia, where it plans to finish the installation work by the end of the year. This project, awarded by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), aims to connect the Malaysian mainland to Langkawi Island with a 132kV undersea cable.
This marks the first deployment of GL2030 after its capacity was upgraded from 4,000 tons to 7,000 tons. The increased capacity allows for the continuous laying of over 100 kilometers of undersea cable, significantly enhancing the company's ability to undertake long-distance and large-scale projects.
The Langkawi project is LS Marine Solutions' second overseas power project, following its work on the Taiwan Power Company’s offshore wind farm (TPC2).
With the deployment of GL2030, all three vessels owned by LS Marine Solutions will be fully operational. Other vessels are currently engaged in undersea cable installation and maintenance projects in Taiwan and the Pacific region.
A representative from LS Marine Solutions stated, "As the only company in Korea with HVDC undersea cable installation experience, we plan to expand our participation in key power grid projects, including the West Coast Energy Highway."
