On October 14, during the first regular session of its 315th meeting, the Anyang City Council visited the food waste resource facility and the Smart City Integrated Center to assess the operational status and progress of key projects.

According to the council, the Welfare and Environment Committee conducted a site visit to the Anyang food waste resource facility located at 232 Parkdal-ro, Manan-gu. This visit followed the committee's first meeting of the day, where they reviewed a proposal for the private consignment of the facility.

Committee members listened to officials regarding operational issues and field opinions, checking the processing procedures, equipment management, worker safety, and odor control measures. They agreed that the findings from the site inspection should inform their deliberations and emphasized the need for ongoing management of the facility and its surrounding environment to ensure stable operations.

Additionally, they positively evaluated the reduction in waste processing volume compared to the previous year, attributing it to citizens' voluntary efforts following the introduction of the RFID waste volume-based system.

The facility can process 180 tons of waste daily and operates using a dry reduction method, with intermediate processed food waste being utilized as animal feed. In 2024, it received 34,216.4 tons of waste and processed 34,024.7 tons, while in 2025, it received and processed 34,123.57 tons.

Planning and Administration Committee Tests Autonomous Shuttle and Reviews Smart City Projects

Meanwhile, the Planning and Administration Committee visited the Smart City Integrated Center to examine the center's operational status and the progress of key projects, including a test ride on a driverless Level 4 autonomous shuttle.

This site visit aimed to understand the operational realities of the facilities and gather field opinions necessary for future project and budget reviews.

Committee members experienced the actual road operation of the autonomous shuttle over a 3-kilometer route between the Smart City Integrated Center and the Nabisan Bridge intersection. They later discussed the center's operations and major projects with relevant officials in the center's exhibition room.

Committee Chair Jo Ji-young previously suggested the need for a friendly brand during the design consultation for the Anyang autonomous bus vehicle wrap, proposing a citizen participation approach. As a result, the brand 'Juyaro' was created, which Jo described as an example of the importance of citizen engagement and communication in introducing new technologies and policies.

The Planning and Administration Committee plans to utilize the insights gained from this site visit in future related projects and budget reviews. They will also continue to monitor the outcomes of project implementations and any operational improvements, ensuring that smart city technologies enhance citizen safety and convenience.
