The platform, called ZAMMYSMITH, runs on the Unity game engine and has been in closed beta testing since early this year.
Creators can use familiar Unity workflows and import assets from the Unity Asset Store.
ZAMMYSMITH also handles network management and state synchronization, the grunt work that usually takes up the most time in multiplayer development.
Creators write code in Lua, a lightweight scripting language, and can start from ready-made template games. Finished titles run on both mobile and PC.
Smilegate filed a trademark application for the name in March and has begun hiring for the project. One recruitment notice seeks developers with "extensive experience in mods and sandbox content such as Roblox, Fortnite and Minecraft."
Roblox, launched in 2006, works less like a single game than a sprawling digital theme park built by its own users. Its titles range from obstacle courses to role-play towns, are free to enter, and double as online hangouts where players meet friends.
Roblox averaged 123 million daily active users in the April-June quarter, up 10 percent from a year earlier, the company said in its July 30 earnings release.
Nearly three-quarters of users who completed age checks in the last week of June were under 18, and creators on the platform earned more than $1.5 billion in 2025, up from $923 million a year earlier.
Smilegate has not set a launch date for ZAMMYSMITH. The company already operates STOVE, its own PC game distribution platform.
