LG Uplus held the 'U+119 Memorial Run 2026' to honor fallen firefighters and support their families.
On October 17, LG Uplus, in collaboration with the National Fire Agency, hosted the event at Sejong Central Park and the National Sejong Arboretum, with over 2,300 participants including general runners, active firefighters, and families of fallen firefighters.
Now in its second year, this event aims to commemorate the dedication of fallen firefighters who sacrificed their lives for public safety and to support their families.
Participants included general runners, active firefighters, families of fallen firefighters, and key stakeholders. LG Uplus CEO Hong Beom-sik and employees also participated to honor the noble sacrifices of fallen firefighters and encourage their families.
The event featured two courses: 1,400 participants ran the 11.9-kilometer course, symbolizing the number '119' associated with firefighting, while 600 participants wore bibs for a 5-kilometer run that allowed them to join with family or friends. The event focused on safe completion and remembrance rather than competition or awards.
More than 500 participants from last year's inaugural event returned this year. Over 1,000 active firefighters registered, with 119 of them representing the firefighting community.
The event was supported by LG affiliates such as LG Household & Health Care and Farm Hannong, as well as domestic companies including CJ Foodville, RingT, Youngjin Pharmaceutical, NewCare, and Dong-A Pharmaceutical, all sharing the mission of honoring firefighters.
Following the run, an official memorial ceremony organized by the National Fire Agency took place. Experience booths promoting fire safety and performances were also provided for participants.
The entry fee of 50,000 won collected from participants will be fully allocated to support families of fallen firefighters. The fees from last year's event were donated to the 'Firefighter Family Hope Sharing' organization, which aids in memorial activities and support for families of fallen firefighters.
LG Uplus plans to expand the 'U+119 Memorial Run' into a participatory social contribution activity, linking it with its Simply U+ initiative.
CEO Hong Beom-sik stated, "Remembering and expressing gratitude for the noble sacrifices of firefighters who dedicate themselves to protecting the lives and safety of citizens is a responsibility for all of us in society. LG Uplus will continue to work towards fostering a culture that encourages and respects firefighters and their families."
