The Jeonnam Gwangju Semiconductor Forum has been established to support the creation of a semiconductor mega-cluster in the Honam region.
On October 19, the forum held its first temporary board meeting and a donation ceremony.
Yang Jin-seok, chairman of the Gwangju Business Association, was elected as the inaugural chairman, while Jeong Eun-seung, chairman of the Gwangju Semiconductor Strategy Committee, and Kim Seung-hwi, a lawyer, were appointed as co-representatives.
Just over a month after the launch of the preparatory committee in September, the founding general meeting and corporate establishment procedures were completed.
The total contributions amount to 450 million won. Yang Jin-seok donated 300 million won, Lee Jeong-gwon, chairman of DH Group, contributed 100 million won, while co-representatives Kim Seung-hwi and Kim Young-geun, chairman of Songhak Construction, each donated 20 million won. Director Park Chan-gap contributed 10 million won.
The forum aims to support corporate settlement in line with investments from Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix in the Honam semiconductor cluster, establish a network for materials, parts, and equipment cooperation, foster talent tailored to industry needs, and promote public discourse.
This year, the forum plans to form 50 subcommittees and conduct surveys on corporate settlement conditions, as well as hold outreach sessions for citizens.
There are plans to expand into the eastern and western regions of Jeonnam.
A semiconductor strategy research institute will also be established to develop policies aimed at supporting businesses and enhancing industrial infrastructure.
