China’s CATL and Hithium together supplied 56 percent of the batteries shipped to North America’s energy storage system (ESS) market in the first half of 2026, according to SNE Research. CATL led with 38.8 percent and Hithium followed with 17.2 percent. South Korea’s LG Energy Solution held 13.6 percent and Samsung SDI 6.1 percent.

The share held by Chinese suppliers has come under pressure from U.S. measures. Section 301 tariffs on Chinese lithium-ion batteries for non-vehicle use rose to 25 percent from 7.5 percent in January. President Donald Trump signed Executive Order 14421 on Aug. 26, which allows the Energy Department to restrict foreign-produced grid equipment, including battery storage systems.
