SEOUL, October 29 (AJP) - President Lee Jae Myung on Thursday expressed condolences to the victims of a deadly train collision in Spain and pledged support for South Koreans injured in the crash.

In a post on the social media platform X, Lee expressed deep sadness over the crash, extended his condolences to the victims' families and the Spanish people, and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

His condolences came after two high-speed trains collided the previous day on a railway line connecting Madrid with Andalusia in southern Spain, leaving at least 68 people dead and many others injured. The cause of the crash was not immediately known.

Lee also said several South Koreans were among the injured and pledged to ensure they receive the assistance they need. "The safety of our citizens is our top priority," he stressed.

Lee added that the South Korean Embassy in Spain had sent officials to the scene to assist injured South Koreans with medical care and travel arrangements.

Lee also hoped that the situation would soon be under control and people in affected areas could return to their daily lives.
