Kakao Mobility is expanding its mobility technology into the defense sector in collaboration with the Army. The partnership aims to jointly research an AI-based integrated control system and incorporate civilian mobility technology into manned and unmanned hybrid combat systems.

On November 3, Kakao Mobility announced that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Army at the Army Headquarters in Gyeryong, South Chungcheong Province, to cooperate on advanced scientific and technological initiatives, including integrated control technology for hybrid combat systems.

This agreement is part of the Army's efforts to transition into a science and technology-focused military and to expand the adoption of AI in defense, establishing a foundation for collaboration with private enterprises in the field of AI transformation (AX).

The two parties plan to combine Kakao Mobility's technology with the Army's dynamic data and operational expertise, aligning with the development direction of the Army's hybrid combat systems, such as the 'Army Tiger Plus.' This collaboration aims to research and demonstrate specialized physical AI and integrated control technologies for defense.

Kakao Mobility will apply its experience and technology in real-time monitoring and deployment of large-scale mobility assets to the Army's hybrid control systems. They will establish a defense sector testbed centered around the Army's AX bases in Pangyo and Daejeon and jointly research a defense-specific AI control platform. This initiative aims to lay the groundwork for a 'Defense Mobility Operating System (OS).'

The joint research and demonstration projects will also include the development of a dedicated dispatch system and application for the Army, utilizing Kakao Mobility's core technologies such as AI dispatch, route optimization, real-time control, and transportation management systems (TMS).

Ryu Geung-seon, CEO of Kakao Mobility, stated, “Based on the technological capabilities we have accumulated, we will support the innovation of future combat systems and help the Army secure world-class competitiveness in defense physical AI. We aim to create a virtuous cycle where the results of our joint research and demonstration lead to advancements in civilian technology, fostering growth in both military and domestic physical AI ecosystems.”
