SEOUL, November 5 (AJP) - The Seoul International Pride Film Festival (SIPFF) is kicking off its weeklong run on Thursday, according to festival organizers.

Now in its 16th year, the annual LGBTQ film festival, which runs until Nov. 11, begins with an opening ceremony scheduled for 7 p.m. at CGV Piccadilly 1958 in central Seoul, offering screenings of 116 films from 34 countries.

The festival's curtain-raiser is "Black Ball" directed by prominent Spanish creative duo Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo, which won the Best Director award at this year's Cannes Film Festival in May.

Inspired by an unfinished work by Spanish playwright Federico García Lorca, the queer drama follows the intertwined lives of gay men across three different time periods.

Screenings are divided into several sections focusing on different themes and regions including South Korean queer films, works by up-and-coming directors, films exploring LGBTQ lives in Asia, and major international queer productions.

Also on the lineup is a collection of French short films marking the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between France and South Korea.
