A dog is a man's best friend and so was a Pit bull mix named Baby to Clifford James Herbert, a 60-year-old homeless guy with a loving and gentle heart.

Herbert and Baby's life together began when Herbert rescued Baby from a man beating her with a flashlight. From the moment on, they were inseparable. They could have been just another homeless person with a dog, but a kind stranger named Jenine-Lacette Dshazer noticed them snuggling up together on a cold November night in Fresno, California.

She immediately grabbed whatever she could find in her car and offered them--a blanket, cat foods, and a roll of toilet paper--to Herbert. With gratitude, Herbert opened up to Dshazer and shared his story.

Herbert wasn't always living on the street. He once owned his own mechanic shop and worked as a farm worker. However, he became disabled after a heart surgery and a tracheotomy and lost his job.

Herbert went on sharing that he was diagnosed with liver cancer that has spread to his brain. He only had six weeks to live. Even in the midst of pain, Herbert was only worried about his loyal canine that will be left alone to fend for herself when he's gone.

A couple days after the encounter, Dshazer set up a GoFundMe page to help Herbert and Baby to stay in a warm motel room until further arrangements were made. Her story was shared many times, and as of January 12, $25,799 was raised and still going. With the fund, Baby was dewormed, vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed.

On January 3, Baby was finally adopted by a loving family and she got herself a cute little human sister to play with. Herber's last wish came true that day.

Dshazer is still caring for Herbert with the donations given through the GoFundMe page and Herbert is still staying in a local motel.
