SEOUL -- CJ OliveNetworks, a specialized ICT enterprise, was selected to apply cutting-edge technologies to the operation of South Korea's largest eSports stadium capable of accommodating up to 1,200 people that will open in the southwestern city of Gwangju in December.

CJ OliveNetworks said it has secured an order from the Gwangju Information & Culture Industry Promotion Agency, which will open the main stadium capable of accommodating up to 1,000 people and a 200-seat auxiliary stadium at a Chosen Universit building in Gwangju, some 260 kilometers (161 miles) southwest of Seoul.

CJ OliveNetworks will apply specialized design and technologies in sound, lighting, cameras and audio production as well as a multi-viewer system suitable for a live environment. A remote control system will be introduced to enable the integrated operation of key solutions and equipment, along with a mobile stage with LED visual lighting. The auxiliary stadium will have an island-style stage so that gamers and spectators can immerse themselves in games.

"The construction of an e-sports permanent stadium in Gwangju is a project that contains the local government's will to create innovative services and businesses by utilizing new space," said CJ OliveNetworks CEO Cha In-hyok.

South Korea has long been regarded as the Mecca of esports. The establishment of 5G networks triggered a flurry of business cooperation in various industrial sectors. Competition grows in the emerging cloud gaming market, based on the fast data connection that allows users to seamlessly play games from anywhere at any time with low latency.
