A consortium involving Hyundai Engineering and research institutes has been selected for a 33-month state project to develop AI-based design automation technology that would increase efficiency by shortening working hours while improving quality through digitalization.
The consortium groups WISEiTECH, a domestic software company, and four research institutes including the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). Hyundai Engineering is in charge of technology review and verification.
Hyundai Engineering has developed South Korea's first AI-based automatic design systems. "Smart construction technology is an essential factor for securing continuous competitiveness in the construction industry," an unnamed Hyundai Engineering official said in a statement on July 6.
In March 2021, Hyundai Engineering partnered with Korea University to develop a piping and instrumentation diagram (P&ID) drawing design automation system using AI and machine learning. Piping and instrumentation diagrams are commonly used in the engineering sector to show the graphical representations of a process system.
