The company said it aims to enhance product quality through an advanced AI-based sorting system that utilizes deep learning algorithms to improve accuracy in fruit selection.
The AI system employs high-speed cameras to capture three to four images per second of peaches on a conveyor belt, identifying defects with increased speed and precision.
This technology builds upon Lotte Mart's previous implementation of AI sorting for nectarines in July 2023, now expanding its application to crisp peach varieties.
In addition to AI-selected produce, Lotte Mart plans to increase the supply of peaches plucked and sold on the same day starting July 24.
These ultra-fresh peaches are harvested in the early morning hours in major producing regions such as Eumseong and Cheongju and made available in stores by the afternoon.
"Through AI-selected crispy peaches and dawn peaches, we want to convey the message that any peach sold at Lotte is delicious without the element of chance," Lee Seung-han, an official of Lotte Mart, said."
