SEOUL, July 22 (AJU PRESS) – Lunit, a Korean artificial intelligence software developer, said Monday its AI-based diagnosis system has been adopted by Qatar’s national breast cancer screening program.

The AI solution, called "Lunit Insight MMG," compares and analyzes medical images of breast cancer patients and healthy individuals. When the solution detects an anomaly, human supervisors are notified, and the patient undergoes additional tests to confirm the presence of breast cancer.

Qatar has become the first Middle Eastern country to integrate AI technology into its nationwide breast cancer screening program, according to Lunit.

Through the program called "Screen for Life," Qatar’s Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) recommends that women aged 45 to 69 undergo breast cancer screenings every three years.

Lunit Insight MMG will be incorporated into the screening process. Two radiologists will review the mammogram images, using the analysis results from the AI solution as a reference.

"Our collaboration with Qatar's PHCC for the 'Screen for Life' program will equip healthcare providers with a powerful new tool to enhance medical diagnostics," Lunit CEO Brandon Suh said in a press release.

"Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in Qatar, accounting for 32 percent of all female cancer cases," said Sheikha Abu Sheikha, director of early detection programs at PHCC. "As the first country in the Middle East to implement AI across the entire screening program, we're reinforcing Qatar's commitment to high-quality healthcare for women across the country."
