SEOUL, August 29 (AJP) - The number of spectators for this year's professional baseball league is on the brink of reaching a new milestone of 10 million.

According to the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO), the cumulative number of baseball fans who have visited stadiums across the country has surpassed 9 million as of early this week.

Many baseball fans were undeterred by this summer's record heatwave, as attendance reached 8.48 million last Sunday, surpassing the previous single-season record of 8.40 million set in 2017. Just ten days later, the figure achieved another milestone by crossing the 9-million mark.

With an average attendance of 14,756 fans per game this season, in which 10 clubs each play 144 games, the total figure is soon expected to exceed 10 million, as more than 100 games remain until September.

Clubs like the Doosan Bears, Kia Tigers, LG Twins, and Samsung Lions have already attracted over one million spectators each, with the Lotte Giants and SSG Landers closely trailing behind.

All 10 clubs have drawn an average of over 10,000 fans per game, with the Twins leading at 18,899.
