SEOUL, October 16 (AJP) – The South Korean government announced on Wednesday that about 8.8 trillion won (US$6.4 billion) will be injected into the semiconductor ecosystem by 2025.

The comprehensive support package, unveiled by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, includes low-interest loans, fund investments and support for infrastructure and manpower development.

Of the total investment, 4.7 trillion won will be provided through financial support programs, including 4.25 trillion won in low-interest loans and 420 billion won via a new semiconductor ecosystem fund.

The government pledged to actively promote legislation supporting the chip industry and to work toward extending tax credits for national strategic technologies, including semiconductors.

The plan also allocates 1.3 trillion won from the national budget for research and development, workforce training and support for fabless companies.

On the same day, the Ministry of Science and ICT announced plans to secure 100 satellite networks by 2030 and to expand the country's 6G network capabilities, which offer transfer speeds 50 times faster than 5G networks.
