SEOUL, October 30 (AJP) - The Turkish Embassy in the Republic of Korea celebrated Tuesday the 101st anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Türkiye with a special event at a hotel in central Seoul.

Highlighting Türkiye's history and legacy spanning thousands of years, Turkish Ambassador to the Republic of Korea Salih Murat Tamer said, "With the strength we draw from our past, we look to our future with confidence," during his opening speech.

The ambassador also spoke about the strong bond between Türkiye and South Korea, referring to the friendship often recognized as a "blood-bond" forged during the Korean War (1950~1953), when Türkiye deployed 21,212 soldiers to the Korean Peninsula.

"Korea, where we gave nearly 1,000 martyrs for its democracy and freedom, is a very special country, and Koreans are a very dear nation to us," the Turkish envoy said, adding, "The cooperation of the two friendly and brotherly countries in every field has continuously increased in the last 70 years, and our trade volume has reached almost 11 billion dollars as of 2023."

Business ties between South Korea and Türkiye have deepened over the past decade, resulting in joint mega-projects, including infrastructure construction for railroads, highways, and research and development initiatives that have strengthened economic cooperation.

"The Çanakkale 1915 Bridge, the world's largest in its field, and the Eurasia Tunnel connecting Asia and Europe are among these important mega projects completed through Turkish-Korean partnership," Tamer said.

The celebration hosted by the Turkish Embassy in Seoul was attended by around 300 guests, including foreign diplomats, South Korean business leaders, politicians, and cultural figures.
