LAS VEGAS, January 05 (AJP) - A startup consultant emphasized the significance of health tech and human-centered innovation, noting that technologies and products blending these two elements will profoundly transform people’s lives in the future.

In an interview with AJP at CES Unveiled, a preview event for CES 2025 held in Las Vegas on Jan. 5 (local time), Sam Ha, a professor at UC Berkeley Haas School of Business, advocated for technological advancements that address real human problems.

Ha identified health tech as one of the most exciting sectors at CES 2025.

“AI-powered technologies are revolutionizing healthcare by analyzing medical data to enable early diagnoses and personalized treatments. Wearable devices and diagnostic applications are improving the quality of life in tangible ways," Ha said.

However, he also pointed out potential pitfalls, particularly when technologies fail to meet genuine human needs or fail to establish a clear reason for their necessity. Using a cortisol monitoring device as an example, he highlighted the importance of aligning technological innovation with practical applications.

One of the technologies that caught Ha’s attention was an electric stimulation spoon designed for low-sodium diets. While he found the technology intriguing, he commented, “The technology itself is fascinating, but it needs to be refined to address real human needs more effectively.”

Ha also discussed startups focused on neurodiversity, particularly game-based learning technologies for children with autism spectrum disorder or ADHD. He stressed the importance of such technologies supporting the strengths of neurodiverse individuals rather than forcing them to conform to predefined norms.

“These tools should help children become the best version of themselves, rather than attempting to ‘fix’ them based on traditional standards,” he said.

Reflecting on the broader role of CES 2025, Ha described it as a critical platform for technological insights aimed at solving human challenges. He concluded, “Technological innovation should go beyond generating new ideas - it must focus on improving human lives.”
