Samsung Electronics is enhancing the security features of its Galaxy smartphones, shifting from reactive measures to proactive prevention. The focus is on blocking threats from malicious apps, smishing messages, and voice phishing before users can be harmed.

According to industry sources on June 16, Samsung plans to gradually implement strengthened security features starting with new Galaxy products set to launch in the second half of this year. A key component is the upgraded "phishing app risk alert" feature, which aims to prevent not only the installation of malicious apps but also their execution if they are already installed.

This new feature will be available with One UI 9.0. When an app is installed, the system will check reputation data from the Galaxy Store to determine if it is suspicious. If identified as malicious, the app's execution will be blocked. Additionally, apps installed after suspected voice phishing calls or through remote control will trigger warning alerts when users attempt to run them, prompting deletion.

Security experts note that mobile financial fraud has evolved from simple smishing via text links to more sophisticated methods that combine remote control app installations with phone calls, making proactive blocking at the device level increasingly important.

Samsung collaborates with government agencies such as the National Police Agency, the National Forensic Service, and the Korea Internet & Security Agency to provide regular updates to its security policies. By utilizing a list of fraudulent apps shared by the police and KISA data, Samsung keeps the security environment of Galaxy devices up to date.

The company has also strengthened its malicious message blocking capabilities. Samsung preemptively blocks harmful spam messages based on sender numbers, risky links, and spam keywords provided by KISA. Since the introduction of this feature in September 2024, approximately 400 million malicious messages have been blocked as of April this year.

AI-based features are also being expanded. Galaxy smartphones running One UI 8.0 or higher will have a voice phishing alert feature that analyzes risk levels during calls, notifying users of "suspicious" or "warning" statuses. Starting with the Galaxy S26 series, an AI call screening feature will summarize caller information and call content before the user answers.

In addition, Samsung offers features such as automatic blocking of security risks, protection for stolen devices, private sharing, and secure Wi-Fi to safeguard personal information. The company is committed to continuously strengthening the protective framework for Galaxy devices as mobile security threats evolve.
