Prime Minister Han Seung-soo Urges Focus on Vulnerable Areas as Monsoon Begins

Prime Minister Han Seung-soo has directed authorities to focus on managing vulnerable facilities and areas as the monsoon season begins, particularly in Jeju Island and the southern regions of South Korea. The Prime Minister's office reported that he emphasized the need for concentrated management of underground passages, drainage systems, landslide-prone areas, and regions prone to flooding.

While addressing relevant ministries, including the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, and the Korea Forest Service, Han instructed them to thoroughly check the evacuation systems for citizens in case of disasters.

He stated, "Strengthen the emergency response system for weather conditions such as monsoons and heavy rainfall, and ensure that the communication system for rapid evacuation of residents is thoroughly checked." He also urged prompt emergency repairs in areas recovering from past disasters to minimize inconvenience for residents and to prevent additional damage from future heavy rains.

Han further instructed the Korea Meteorological Administration to closely monitor weather conditions related to the monsoon and to promptly inform citizens of any developments.

Additionally, he called for repeated guidance to the public on weather conditions and response measures through disaster alerts and community broadcasts, stressing the importance of quickly notifying citizens of even minor risks to minimize potential casualties.
