SEOUL, July 1 (AJP) - Kia, an affiliate of Hyundai Motor Group, sold 1.63 million vehicles in cumulative sales for the first six months of this year at home and abroad.

According to the automaker, it was the highest-ever first-half figure since Kia began selling vehicles in 1962.

In June alone, it sold 295,720 vehicles worldwide, up 9.5 percent from a year earlier including 54,508 at home and 240,259 overseas. It also sold about 953 special-purpose vehicles, including 473 in the domestic market and 480 overseas.

Its top-selling model globally was the Sportage SUV, with 54,058 units sold, followed by the Seltos with 35,007 and the K4 with 22,373. In South Korea, the Sorento led sales with 8,561 units.

Strong demand for electric vehicles and hybrids drove the sales, as Kia sold 72,078 EVs in the first half, up 151.1 percent from 28,706 in the same period in 2025 and also exceeding last year's full-year total of 60,820.

The EV3 led sales with 18,431 units, followed by the EV5 with 15,965 and the PV5 with 15,000.

"To maintain growth momentum, we will promote sales with a full EV lineup and SUV hybrid models tailored by region," said a Kia spokesperson.
