As tensions escalate between the United States and Iran, a close advisor to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei emphasized the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz.

On July 12, Mohsen Rezaei, the military advisor to the Supreme Leader, referred to the Strait of Hormuz as a "strategic passage" during a memorial event for former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who is also the father of Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei.

He stated, "The Strait of Hormuz is more important than dozens of nuclear bombs, and the Islamic Republic of Iran will protect it."

This statement comes after recent attacks by the Iranian military on commercial vessels passing through the Strait, which prompted U.S. military retaliation. Earlier that morning, Iran declared a complete blockade of the strait, citing 'illegal navigation' by ships.

Rezaei referenced the death of Ali Khamenei, which occurred on February 28 due to U.S. and Israeli airstrikes, claiming, "The emotions of the Iranian people were attacked, and they killed our father."

He added, "Revenge is not the end of the revolution but an important means to continue it," asserting, "We will also pursue the path of revenge. The Quran emphasizes fighting against enemies and subduing invaders."

Rezaei, a former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), is known as a prominent hardliner in Iran, having been implicated in the assassination of U.S. oil company executives in southern Iran in 1978.
