Hyundai Motor and its labor union resumed wage negotiations after more than 40 days, but no significant progress was made. The union plans to initiate an additional five days of strikes starting August 19.

According to industry sources on August 18, the two sides held their 16th round of talks at the Ulsan plant but failed to narrow their differences.

As a result, the union will conduct four-hour partial strikes daily from August 19 to 20, followed by an eight-hour full strike on August 21, and additional four-hour partial strikes on August 24 and 25.

This will mark the first full strike since the collective bargaining negotiations in 2016.

The union plans to hold the full strike on August 21 and will send leaders to the company’s headquarters in Yangjae-dong, Seoul, to protest.

The union stated, "Although we resumed negotiations after a prolonged deadlock, the company's proposal remains inadequate. We will continue to seek a resolution while applying pressure through strikes."

Meanwhile, the union has conducted a total of 44 hours of strikes since the start of negotiations this year.
