The Ministry of Justice has partnered with the Korean Bar Association and the World Korean Lawyers Association to support young lawyers in South Korea in their pursuit of international opportunities.

On October 14, the Ministry announced the opening ceremony of the 12th Young Lawyers Overseas Academy at the Korean Bar Association building in Seocho-gu, Seoul.

Launched in 2014, this program has produced a total of 566 graduates over the past 12 years, enhancing the international capabilities of South Korean legal professionals. The 12th session will run weekly on Wednesdays until December 16.

The academy will offer ten sessions of practical training focused on international arbitration, drafting English contracts, international trade, and cross-border mergers and acquisitions.

To ensure equal educational opportunities for young lawyers residing in regional areas, this session will also feature live virtual lectures in collaboration with the Busan Bar Association.

Outstanding graduates who complete the program will be eligible for overseas internships through the Ministry's Global Fellowship program. The fourth cohort of the Global Fellowship next year will expand its support to include placements in law firms and international organizations across 11 countries, including the United States, Australia, China, and Japan.

Kang Jun-ha, Director of the International Legal Affairs Bureau at the Ministry of Justice, expressed hope in his speech that young South Korean lawyers would actively engage on the global stage despite rapidly changing international circumstances. He encouraged them to seek growth as legal professionals in the field of international law.

Kim Jeong-wook, President of the Korean Bar Association, welcomed the initiative, stating that as the global legal market expands, he hopes this academy will provide more members with opportunities for international legal education through real-time broadcasts from the Busan Bar Association, serving as a stepping stone for overseas advancement.
