SEOUL, October 21 (AJP) - South Korea has attracted 145 Taiwanese tourists with a travel package built around regional festivals celebrating tteokbokki and gimbap, the Korea Tourism Organization said Wednesday.

The visitors will attend the Daegu Tteokbokki Festival and the Gimcheon Gimbap Festival on Oct. 23 and 24 as part of a campaign to turn local food festivals in Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province into tourism draws for overseas visitors.

The KTO's Taipei office developed the package with major Taiwanese travel agencies in September, targeting travelers interested in Korean food and culinary tourism.

The campaign focuses on bunsik, a category of inexpensive Korean snack foods that includes spicy rice cakes, gimbap and instant noodles.

The tourism agency will also invite influencers to the Daegu and Gimcheon festivals as well as the Gumi Ramen Festival scheduled for November. They will promote the events through their social media channels.

The KTO said Taiwan was the largest source of foreign travelers arriving through Daegu International Airport and Gimhae International Airport, making it a key market for regional tourism campaigns.
