Daehan Cable is rebranding its submarine cable laying vessel to strengthen its presence in the global submarine cable market.
On November 2, Daehan Cable announced that it will change the name of its dedicated cable laying vessel (CLV) from 'Scandi Connector' to 'Daehan Connector.' This change reflects the company's identity in its core construction assets and aims to enhance brand recognition in the global market.
The new name, Daehan Connector, was finalized through an employee contest. It embodies the ambition to successfully connect submarine cables under the Daehan name while preserving the legacy and identity of the previous 'Connector,' which has laid approximately 1,300 kilometers of submarine cables across 27 projects.
Daehan Connector is a dedicated cable laying vessel weighing approximately 11,000 tons, acquired from Norwegian marine contractor DOF in May. It can carry up to 7,000 tons of cable per trip, enabling the construction of both internal and external networks for offshore wind power, as well as long-distance interconnections and high-voltage direct current (HVDC) submarine cables. Currently, it is engaged in laying operations for the Yeonggwang Nakwol offshore wind power project.
Daehan Cable stated, "With the addition of the Daehan Connector to our fleet alongside the Palos, we now operate the only offshore wind power CLV fleet in the country. Based on these two vessels, we will strengthen our turnkey capabilities, integrating design, production, transportation, and construction of submarine cables."
