SEOUL, July 03 (AJU PRESS) - A high school student was booked for allegedly creating explicit deepfake images and videos using schoolmates' faces and selling them through social media, police said Wednesday.

Deepfake is an artificial intelligence-based technique that alters images or videos, typically by replacing one person's face with another's. Those proficient in this technique can manipulate faces in media content, often using it for criminal purposes to deceive viewers with fake content.

Police said that two complaints were filed against the teenage boy living in the southern port city of Busan. He is under investigation for selling explicit deepfake images featuring his schoolmates' faces via social media.

According to the police, the suspect posed as his female schoolmates on social media platforms to sell illegal adult content. He also collected and posted reviews from customers who purchased the illegal videos on his social media account.

Police identified several victims, which led to the suspect being suspended from school.
