On June 29, the ministry held a launch meeting for the Multi AI Agent Demonstration Project for Small Manufacturing at a food manufacturing site in North Chungcheong Province, where they discussed the project's direction.
During the meeting, a scenario from the food manufacturing company Aijera was shared. This scenario involves the AI agent analyzing process and product conditions to predict quality risks in manufacturing processes that may experience quality variations based on raw material status and process conditions. This will help validate the decision-support structure for workers and managers.
A scenario from the beauty manufacturing company Kairos Lab was also presented. It involves using AI agents throughout the entire production cycle, from formulation design to quality control, process, regulatory review, and clinical efficacy prediction, to enhance new product development and production efficiency.
The 12 selected projects will utilize manufacturing site data over the next six months to verify the functionality of the AI agents, their usability in the field, and the scalability of subsequent research and development (R&D). The proof of concept (PoC) phase will focus on assessing the operational feasibility of AI agents in core tasks at manufacturing sites and their potential to support decision-making for workers or managers.
The ministry, in collaboration with the Korea Institute of Startup and Entrepreneurship Development, will manage the PoC projects by ensuring data quality verification, linking national GPU infrastructure, and providing dedicated support to ensure that the projects yield tangible results. Additionally, at the conclusion of the pilot study, the ministry will systematically evaluate the practical applicability and research outcomes in actual manufacturing environments through public assessments.
Previously, the Korea Institute of Startup and Entrepreneurship Development completed the selection evaluation for the AI agents specialized for small manufacturing on June 22, finalizing 12 projects across various manufacturing sectors, including food, beauty, automotive parts, and metal processing.
Kwon Soon-jae, Director of Regional Enterprise Policy at the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, stated, "AI technology is expected to play a crucial role not only in enhancing productivity and quality in manufacturing but also in improving worker safety and environmental conditions."
