The Seoul City Dance Company will present its new work 'Mugamseogi' at the Sejong Center from September 10 to 13, the center announced on July 16.

This piece is a contemporary interpretation of Seoul Gut, a traditional ritual dance. It reinterprets the cleansing and healing significance of the Gut in a modern context.

'Mugamseogi' refers to a ritual performed at the end of a Gut, where the person who commissioned the Gut wears the shaman's attire and dances themselves, symbolizing the belief that they can receive true blessings.

The performance reinterprets this traditional meaning, transforming the Gut from a ritual of receiving blessings into a modern ceremony where individuals observe their inner selves and gain the strength to live anew, all on a grand stage.

The large-scale performance will feature 45 dancers, expanding the grandeur and vitality of Seoul Gut to the main stage.

Additionally, the production will be completed through collaboration among creators known for their unique works in various fields, including dance, music, and film.

Composer Lee Ha-neul, who has gained attention for crossing genres from traditional Korean music to film and performance music, will participate for the first time in a dance performance. Media artist Jang Cheol-soo, known for directing films such as 'The Case of Kim Bok-nam' and 'Secretly Greatly,' will handle the media art. Dancer Kim Mu-gwan, familiar to the public from 'Stage Fighter,' will contribute as a choreographer and performer. Kim Yu-ri, a master of the intangible cultural heritage of pansori, will participate live in 'Tears of White,' vividly embodying the breath and emotion of the Gut.

Yoon Hye-jung, director of the Seoul City Dance Company, stated, “This work is for those living with their own wounds and anxieties in this era. I want to convey that the answer ultimately lies within ourselves, rather than relying on someone else to save us.”

The performances will take place at the Sejong Center from September 10 to 13.
