This project, aimed at addressing growing commuter demand and replacing aging vehicles in Boston, marks Hyundai Rotem's third deal with MBTA, following contracts signed in 2008 and 2019.
Deliveries for the previous order are set to be completed this year. Despite global supply chain disruptions during the COVID-19 pandemic, the company delivered its first batch five months ahead of schedule.
Hyundai Rotem expressed its commitment to timely deliveries and to meeting local transportation needs.
“Based on our track record of working with local authorities, we will actively respond to future demand for rail cars in the U.S. market,” the company said in a press release.
Since entering the U.S. market in 2006, Hyundai Rotem has secured contracts in California, Florida, Pennsylvania and Denver. Earlier this year, it was also selected to supply electric trains for the Los Angeles Metro.
